Airport pickup and overnight in Addis Ababa, at almost 2,400m elevation.
Drive south into the Rift Valley, birding the shores of Lake Ziway for pelicans, herons, and other waterbirds.
Continue south through the Rift Valley lakes, stopping at forest patches and lakeshores en route to Awasa.
Drive up into the Bale Mountains, gaining altitude through changing habitat — from woodland to Afroalpine moorland.
A full day on the Sanetti Plateau above 4,000m, watching for Ethiopian wolves and high-altitude endemics like the Blue-winged Goose and Rouget's Rail.
Descend into Harenna Forest on the mountains' southern slope, a very different habitat holding its own set of forest specialties.
Return drive north, with birding stops along the way.
