We are a specialist safari operator with deep roots in East African travel, wildlife, and birding. Our work is practical before it is promotional: choosing the right habitats, understanding seasonality, allowing realistic time in the field, working with strong local guides, and designing routes that make sense on the road.
Some guests come to Hudhud for a first safari in the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Amboseli, or Ngorongoro. Others come with target birds, photography goals, primate interests, or a desire to combine forests, lakes, savannah, mountains, and coast in one journey. In both cases, the principle is the same: the itinerary should fit the traveller, not the other way around.

The hudhud, or hoopoe, is one of the most distinctive birds of Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia: crested, alert, beautifully marked, and instantly recognisable in the field. It is also a bird with a remarkable cultural life.
In Islamic tradition, the hudhud appears in the Qur'anic story of Prophet Sulayman and the Queen of Sheba as a perceptive messenger: a bird that travels, observes carefully, returns with news, and helps connect distant worlds. In Persian Sufi literature, most famously in Attar's Conference of the Birds, the hoopoe is the guide who leads other birds on a difficult journey of discovery. The hoopoe also appears in ancient Egyptian art and wider regional folklore, often carrying associations of insight, protection, guidance, and passage.
We chose the name Hudhud because it reflects the kind of safari company we aim to be: observant, knowledgeable, well-travelled, and attentive to what others might miss. A good safari guide notices the small movement in the grass, the call from the forest edge, the change in light, the track on the road, and the season behind the sighting. For us, the hudhud is a fitting symbol of fieldcraft, curiosity, and guided discovery.
